Reading early relates to the trouble you have sleeping. As a baby, you had to be rocked to sleep, regardless of how tired you were. After you learned to speak, we could read you picture books until you relaxed enough to sleep. If we left the book by your bed (a backless couch), you would quietly look at it if you awoke. When I made you and your sister bunk beds, I installed a 40-watt night light on your bunk. This led to your habit of sleeping on a pile of books, like a dragon on her hoard.

You taught yourself to read at age four, but succeeded in keeping it secret for a few months.
